A Mumbai native, few Bollywood actresses have had as big an impact on the industry s Madhuri Dixit. Madhuri began her career in the film Abodh, although it was not until Tezaab in 1988 that Madhuri achieved national fame, putting her in premiere films such as Ram Lakhan, Tridev, Parinda, and Kishen Kanhaiya, where she portrayed a childless midwife to great acclaim. In 1990, Madhuri won her first award for Filmfare's Best Actress after her performance in the romance Dil. Throughout the rest of the nineties, Madhuri featured in many blockbuster Bollywood films, including 1994's Hum Aapke Hain Koun...!, one of the most widely viewed Indian films of all time. In the 2000's, Madhuri received international acclaim for her performances in Devdas, as well as many other roles. Madhuri is not only regarded one of the finest actresses of her generation, but she is a great beauty and renowned dancer. There have been many tributes dedicated to her pioneering work. She has been awarded the Padma Shri for her acting talents and is married to a cardiovascular surgeon in the United States. She currently lives in Denver, Colorado. |
